Inilah Mahathir: Tak pernah 'salah', sekarang tiada yang 'betul'!

Kit Siang: Mahathir never ‘wrong’, now never ‘right’

The critics of the former PM are prostitutes, more keen on climbing the greasy pole at the expense of principles and honour.

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP elder statesman Lim Kit Siang, speaking up for former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, called on Umno/Barisan Nasional (BN) Ministers and leaders not to wear blinkers about him. “Don’t regard everything he says now as wrong.”
“During his 22-year premiership, people were idolizing all he said as right, even when he was wrong.”
Lim, who is also DAP Parliamentary Leader and Gelang Patah MP, said that he would never be labelled as a bundle of contradictions or a political chameleon. “When Mahathir was at the height of his power, I had no hesitation in speaking the truth even if the price was another spell of Internal Security Act (ISA) detention,” he recalled.
Similarly, he added, if what Mahathir does or says now was right and good for the country, he has no hesitation in supporting or praising him. “I will not allow his past iniquities and failings to stand in the way of commending him when he was doing the right thing.”
“What I find most despicable are politicians who have neither principles nor honour and whose only interest and obsession was to climb up the greasy pole to political influence and power even if the price was to prostitute themselves.”
One such example is Umno politicians playing the race card about the Bersih 4 rally, distorting it as a Chinese show-of-force and a challenge to Malay political power, said Lim. “Bersih 4 was about the people coming together in Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and 70 cities worldwide for good governance and clean, free and fair elections.”
As Mahathir said on Wednesday morning, continued Lim in citing another example, there was no need for any “Red Shirt” Malay rally to counter Bersih 4, as the latter was not about race but about good governance. “But even more despicable than Umno politicians who are trying to play the race card over the Bersih 4 rally are MCA and Gerakan politicians.”
MCA and Gerakan politicians, charged Lim, could go so low as to concoct grounds to help the opportunistic Umno politicians to play the race card, by saying that “growing Malay anger towards the Chinese community should be blamed solely on DAP”.
“This is adding fuel to the fire. There’s no basis for any ‘growing Malay anger’ in the first place.”
These opportunistic MCA and Gerakan politicians, he lamented, best described as “Dead Men Walking”, made baseless allegations that the DAP had “hijacked” and taken over command and control of Bersih 4.
“They tried to pin isolated incidents like stepping on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s and PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang’s photo or the burning of hell notes – which never took place – on the DAP.”
