MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE, 9:40 a.m.) At least seven members of the New People’s Army (NPA), including a woman, were killed and 11 high-powered firearms were recovered after fighting between soldiers and rebels Tuesday in the town of Camiling, Tarlac, the military said Wednesday.
Capt. Mark Anthony Ruelos, public affairs chief of the Army’s 7th Infantry Division, said soldiers from 3rd Mechanized Infantry Battalion-Light Armor Division ((3Mech-LAD), supported by elements of the police’s Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC), encountered an undetermined number of rebels at around 8:45 p.m. in Sitio Bobon, Barangay Caarosipan.
“Firefight ensued when the blocking force of 3Mech and PPSC sighted the withdrawing NPA from said barangay which resulted in undetermined number of casualties to the enemy side while no casualty on the government side,” Ruelos said.
Following the firefight, seven bodies, including a woman’s, a GPMG M60 machinegun, an M14, an M653 (Baby armalite), and 3 M16 rifles were recovered.
Col. Henry Sabarre, commander of the 703rd Infantry Brigade, said the soldiers were led by 3Mech commanding officer Lt. Col. RJ Atencio.
The company commander of 73rd Division Reconnaissance Company (73DRC) provided augmentation force.
“The armed groups encountered by our troops are members of the NPAs operating in the tri-boundaries of Tarlac, Pangasinan, and Zambales,” Sabarre said.
“We have been conducting a series of combat operation in these areas for so long now, side by side by our peace and development teams. And as a result, civilians in the area are the ones giving vital information on the presence of NPAs in their locality. At the end of the day, these insurgents will have no more room to hide and eventually fall in the hands of the law,” he added

Tiga lagi pemberontak berjaya melarikan diri ketika insiden berbalas tembakan sehingga awal pagi Rabu.
Zagala tidak mendedahkan nama anggota wanita yang terbunuh itu.
Beliau berkata enam pemberontak yang maut merupakan antara 19 anggota NPA yang dipercayai beroperasi di Tarlac.
