MH370: A perfect hijack not made public?

The missing Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777-200ER continues to baffle the world and different hypotheses are coming into play as time runs out for all parties.

As hypotheses are being bandied on the fate of missing MH370, the latest being that the plane is at the bottom of the Indian Ocean, the clock is ticking away. Despite sophisticated tracking devices on the plane and on the ground, it is still undetectable – at least that’s what the various agencies are saying.

All the exhaustive international search efforts have thus far failed to find any trace of the Boeing 777-200ER that was carrying 239 passengers and crew enroute to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur . There is a high possibility that the plane has been hijacked by an extremist group to an unknown location.

Conflicting information at a piecemeal rate has only irked all those involved in the search mission and there won’t be much of a ‘rescue’ until the plane or its wreckage is located or sighted. There simply seems to be no trail left for sniffing out the plane at the moment.

Let us digress to the 9/11 incident that literally shook the aviation industry. A landmark building, the World Trade Center in the US was brought down with precision by terrorists linked to the al-Qaeda group. And the weapon was not one but two planes.

Security at all airports worldwide after that was water-tight, right up to deploying armed air marshals for highly susceptible routes and destinations. Every inch of each boarding person was scanned and scrutinised, to a degree that many felt their privacy was being violated.

Nevertheless, we all know as time passed, security at airports have laxed with the assumption that intelligence surveillance by local and international agencies could nip possible pockets of terrorists before a similar disaster repeats.

This brings us to the question: could have MH370 experienced a forced take-over and be used as a weapon against some unidentified target but got intercepted?

Is the military hiding something?

There is a likelihood that the air force has either escorted the plane out into the greater seas of west Peninsular Malaysia and brought it down or forced it to land on a remote location for negotiation with the terrorists.

And in doing so, all communications and relay systems must have been disengaged to contain further damage.

Since the Royal Malaysian Air Force had detected a flying object classified as unidentified, there is a possibility that they did not deploy their air unit to either scan or survey the object. Any breach, no matter how minute into our air space warrants an immediate interception.

That is a standard protocol for all air defense systems worldwide, far more if no ground contact is established on request. And if that is not part of our defense protocol, we wonder why even have an air force in the place?

Is the military keeping a high level secret of a covert operation with the Americans on this entire MH370 mystery and the collateral damage is the 239 people on board?

If there’s possibility that the plane and its passengers are safe but held hostage by terrorists and there are ongoing negotiations, for certain the government will not reveal and compromise the situation.

Going public will immediately result in all search efforts recalled and Malaysia will be penalised heavily for initiating a wild-goose chase. It is no joke when we swing the entire search from the east to the west in a jiffy.

The entire exercise is costing a mind-boggling amount but some may argue the lives of the passengers on MH379 are precariously hanging in the balance along with the country’s sovereignty.

The theory of a hijacking may not be well received but then nothing is impossible when conflicting information and conflicting data are being served to the media daily.
