Pakatan Rakyat leaders also challenged other Barisan Nasional leaders to debate them instead of throwing accusations that their policy will bankrupt the nation.
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Rakyat has challenged Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to debate with Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim over the opposition’s manifesto.
“Stop accusing that our policy will bankrupt the nation. Debate our policy.
“In fact, any of us is more than willing to debate any Barisan Nasional leader on the manifesto. Let’s scrutinise the numbers,” said PAS central working committee member Dzulkefly Ahmad.
Also present were PKR vice-president Tian Chua, strategy director Rafizi Ramli and Bukit Bendera MP Liew Chin Tong.
The leaders are among the brains behind the manifesto launched on Monday.
Echoing Rafizi’s sentiments, Liew challenged BN to reveal its own manifesto, so that a comparison could be made on both documents.
“Come up with your own manifesto. From there, we can dissect both documents policy to policy, framework to framework,” he said.
The Pakatan’s manifesto drew mixed reactions from various quarters, with BN MP Abdul Rahman Dahlan describing it as reckless and irresponsible.
“It’s about spending but nothing on how to finance it,” he was reported as saying.
Rafizi said that Pakatan would finance its programmes by curbing wastages and corruption, reorganise spending priority and increase revenue through an improved economic system.
He also said the matter should not be seen in the way BN spends taxpayers’ money, which only provides piecemeal solutions rather than structural reforms to the economy.
Rafizi added that billions could be saved by curbing leakages and corruption alone.
“When it comes to reorganising our spending priority, let me give you an example.
“Which is more important? Spending RM14 million to refurbish Seri Perdana or to use the same funds to build schools? That is what we mean by prioritising our spending,” he said.
Rafizi said more savings and revenue could be earned by curbing monopolies, which would reduce prices and increase disposable income among the masses.
He also challenged BN leaders to debate the matter instead of trying to scare voters without facts and figures.
“If we can come up with almost precise numbers without help from any government agency, I’m sure BN, with the help of its consultants, the Economic Planning Unit and Pemandu, can get better figures to debate us,” he said.
