Near the town of Kasab, tucked into the wooded ridges of northwest Syria, camouflaged rebels are attacking a government checkpoint with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms.
It is the latest skirmish in a spreading fight near the Turkish border, a region where many people identify ethncially as Turkmen and have felt treated unfairly by their fellow Syrians.
Rebels here tell Al Jazeera they are taking out government mines and planting their own as they fight for access to the Mediterranean Sea, but that they lack medical supplies.
