MISSING MH370 : Previous MAS crashes and near misses

Dec 4, 1977: MAS Boeing 737 via Kuala Lumpur crashed at Tanjung Kupang, 54km from Johor Baru. All 100 passengers and crew members perished, including Agriculture Minister Datuk Seri Haji Ahmad and PWD director-general Tan Sri Mahfus Khalid.
Jan 21, 1981: MAS Fokker Friendship (F27) with 25 passengers from Johor Baru had landing difficulties at Subang Airport. 

May 9, 1981: MAS Airbus carrying 218 passengers made an emergency landing at Kota Kinabalu Airport after one of the engines caught fire. No casualties. 

Aug 16, 1981: MAS DC10 with 176 passengers and 17 crew bound for Sydney made a forced landing at Subang Airport. No one was injured. 

Dec 31, 1981: MAS Fokker Friendship (F27) with 30 passengers crashed on its belly a few seconds after take-off at Penang airport. Two passengers were injured. 

July 6, 1982: MAS rural service aircraft crashed in Long Semado in Sarawak’s Fifth Division soon after take-off, injuring the pilot and four passengers.

Dec 18, 1983: MAS Airbus with 247 aboard crash-landed during a thunderstorm at Kampung Melayu, Subang, one kilometre short of the airport runway. 247 crew and passengers escaped moments before the plane exploded. No lives lost.

May 21, 1984: MAS Boeing made an emergency landing shortly after take-off at Sandakan. The aircraft was on flight (MH 536) from Sandakan to Kota Kinabalu. 

June 20, 1984: MAS F27 aircraft carrying 35 passengers suffered a nose-wheel puncture shortly after landing at the Sandakan Airport. All escaped unhurt.

Dec 22, 1984: MAS Boeing 737 crash landed at Sandakan Airport after it developed engine trouble. Fourteen passengers were hurt. 

June 11, 1985: MAS Boeing 737 aircraft made an emergency landing at Miri Airport, 90 passengers and a crew of 7 escaped. 

Aug 31, 1987: MAS Fokker Frienship’s main undercarriage accidently retracted causing the tail end to tilt and pinned one MAS Security Personnel. He died several days later. 

May 14, 1991: MAS Boeing 737-200 crash landed at Subang airport after an axle broke. The aircraft was empty except for the pilot and co-pilot. No injuries. 

April, 1, 1993: MAS Boeing 737 with 24 passengers came to a sudden halt when its front wheel got stuck in soft ground at Subang Airport. No one was hurt. 

Feb 12, 1994: Passengers on board a MAS Airbus had a scare when its four left wheel tyres burst upon touchdown at Kuching Airport. 

Aug 18, 1994: Aborted landing involving Malaysian Airlines Boeing 737-400 and EVA Air Boeing 767-400 at Subang Airport. 

Sept 7, 1994: An air-miss involving a MAS Boeing 737-400 and a Singapore Airline Airbus 310 at Subang Airport. 

Oct 28, 1994: A MAS F50 with 50 passengers made an emergency landing at Sibu airport. 

Jan 7, 1995: MAS McDonnell Douglas MD11 with 100 passengers aborted take-off after one engine caught fire at Penang Airport. 
Sept 15, 1995: Thirty-four people died when flight MH2133 overshot the runway at Tawau airport, crashing into a squatter settlement. 

March 15, 2000 - An Airbus A330-300 servicing the MH085 route between Beijing and Kuala Lumpur was damaged during unloading of cargo at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The plane was damaged by a chemical called oxalyl chloride, which leaked out of a canister during unloading. Five ground staff fell ill.

Aug 1, 2005: MAS Boeing 777-200ER aircraft made an emergency landing at Perth, Western Australia when it started to "overspeed and stall" and then "pitch" at 41,000 feet. No one was injured. 

Oct 10, 2013: MASWings MH3002, a Twin Otter aircraft carrying 16 passengers from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat overshot the runway and crashed into a house at Kampung Sin-San about 2.50pm. The co-pilot and one passenger died and six passengers were seriously injured. This was the first incident involving MASWings. 

Dec 17, 2013 - Flight MH170, flying in from Jakarta, experienced severe turbulence while preparing to land at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, due to an air vortex caused by an earlier landing by an Airbus A380 super jumbo. The vortex caused the Boeing 737-800 to pitch down and to the sides during its descent. Plane was brought under control by pilot and landed safely.  - sumber
