Sg Buloh school canteen opened this afternoon to non-Muslim pupils
School authorities had earlier claimed that the non-Muslim pupils were ordered into the shower room as the canteen was closed for renovations.
It was also revealed today that the make-shift canteen in the shower room was closed with the tables and chairs removed.
A parent, Major Hardeep Singh, said the pupils were told by the teachers today that they can start using the canteen.
"I went and checked and found that the shower room has also been made off limits with the tables and chairs taken out."
Hardeep said that what happened was very unfortunate and hoped that it would serve as a lesson to the school authorities.
"What is important, is that unwanted events like this do not jeopardise the strong ties we Malaysians share, especially in schools where children are nurtured about our collective values."
Another parent who did not want to be identified, said she has decided to take her daughter out of the school.
"Looking at the way this issue has been handled by the school and the way it has gone viral on Facebook, I do not want my daughter to be here any longer," said the woman who was leaving the school premises after settling the paperwork.
At about 2.15pm several women were seen cleaning the tables in the canteen.
The school's parent-teachers association head Hussein Mohd Arif said that he is glad the matter has been resolved as the school has been put under immense pressure. - July 25, 2013
