Ibrahim Ali, Jaga-Jaga Sikit!

Ibrahim Ali, watch your back
July 17, 2013
FMT LETTER: From Stephen Ng, via e-mail
Less than two years ago  Perkasa president, Ibrahim Ali, touched on some sensitivities of the Chinese community. During a special Chinese New Year event which he had organised, he made it a point to give away money in white packets, symbolising the “pak kum” given to the old folks who attended his event.
This was both an insult to the old folk who attended the dinner event as well as the Chinese community at large. This is one of the reasons why the Chinese community in Malaysia were all riled up against Perkasa and Umno Baru.
The issue was raised, but no censure was made against Ibrahim Ali for his insensititivies. Instead, he was let off when he told the press that he was totally ignorant of the sensitivities of the colour of the packets used. The Chinese have so far shown their tolerance towards Ibrahim Ali, but he has failed to reciprocate.
It is not that I condone what the blogging couple had done, but enough politics have been played up that would do more harm than good to the race relations in this country, especially when people try to mix race and religion in order to score points. So far, I have not heard such thing being uttered by former Kelantan Menteri Besar Tok Guru Nik Aziz or the former Menteri Besar of Selangor; it is always coming out of people who are connected, either directly or indirectly, to the Father of Racism.
The latest revelation by the young man, Ng Mun Tatt, who was abducted recently, that the abductors only wanted his money, but already there are suggestions that the abduction is linked to the sex bloggers even before a full investigation is carried out by the police, is a mischief and a deliberate act of misfeasance that cannot be forgiven.
With all that is happening, allow me to remind Ibrahim Ali, rather than to add fuel to the fire, he too is equally guilty of raising eyebrows of people of other religions. Perhaps, that’s the reason why the Chinese community in Pasir Panjang had voted for the son of a more well-respected Malay leader instead of this scumbag?
