The sources, who insisted on anonymity, explained to Arabi 21 on Thursday that the Egyptian side has still not delivered to the Palestinian delegation any response from the Israelis regarding the demands of the resistance, whether in terms of acceptance or rejection.
Informed sources told Arabi 21 news site that the Egyptian side is stalling the agreement of a permanent truce between the Palestinian resistance and Israel because it is rejecting the phrase "lifting the siege" in any proposed truce deal and this rejection is what is obstructing reaching a solution that is satisfactory to the Palestinian resistance.
The sources, who insisted on anonymity, explained to Arabi 21 on Thursday that the Egyptian side has still not delivered to the Palestinian delegation any response from the Israelis regarding the demands of the resistance, whether in terms of acceptance or rejection, despite approaching the end of the humanitarian truce that was due to expire at 8 am local time on Friday. The sources pointed out that the Egyptian mediator promised to deliver the Israeli response by Thursday evening.
However, on Friday morning, the ceasefire expired without reaching any agreement. There was an exchange of rocket fire in the Gaza Strip, resulting in more Palestinian casualties.
The sources also noted that the Egyptian officials have been categorical in their rejection, up until the present moment, of the phrase "lifting the siege" in the proposed truce deal. This, they added, will be the reason why the negotiations collapse, because the Palestinian delegation refuses to accept a return to the status quo that existed prior to the aggression.
The sources, who are well informed about the talks in Cairo, expressed astonishment at the Egyptian's refusal to lift the siege of Gaza, especially considering the fact that all the proposed European solutions for the crisis have stated the necessity of opening a marine port in the Gaza Strip under international supervision.
The sources told Arabi 21 that the Egyptian attitude of stalling keeps the doors open before the resistance to seeking other negotiation channels in order to achieve the demands of the Palestinian people, with all due respect for the Egyptian role, because "the resistance cannot keep an open ended time frame for the negotiations, which cannot just continue forever."
The sources stressed that the Palestinian delegation is talking in one voice to the Egyptian mediator and that "it insists on the implementation of the demands of the resistance, which have practically become the demands of the entire Palestinian people." They added that the delegation has grown more confident and coherent after "the mass rallies held in the Gaza Strip to express support for the demands of the delegation and after the resistance announced that its finger is still on the trigger."
