Bagi orang politik tidak ada pengorbanan sekiranya tiada ganjaran!
Aku dah faham benar tu.......
Inilah salah satu sebab sekarang aku tidak berparti
It’s a sacrifice, says Abang Johari
Widely speculated Abang Johari Openg who lost the race to become Sarawak's fifth chief minister said the final decision took into consideration Sarawak's sovereignty and stability.
KUCHING: Sarawak’s Tourism and Housing Minister Abang Johari Openg, who was widely speculated to succeed Taib Mahmud, said today that the decision to appoint Adenan Satem was in view of the 2016 state and 2018 general elections.
He said the party – Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) – had given Chief Minister Taib the “full authority” to choose his successor and that the sovereignty and stability of Sarawak and Malaysia were given top consideration.
“On the strong spirits of unity and consensus, the full mandate given to the president symbolises that PBB leadership had given priority to the party and Sarawakians above personal interests.
“The sovereignty and stability of Sarawak as well as Malaysia are more important in our struggle, particularly in this challenging political landscape, especially with the state elections coming in 2016 and general elections in 2018,” said Abang Johari, who is PBB’s deputy president 2.
He was responding to Taib naming his former brother-in-law Adenan, 66, as his successor.
Bets were high that Abang Johari, who is seen as a ‘Malaya supporter’, and favoured by the Chinese would accend the seat after Taib’s retirement.
He said the party leadership (Taib) had given precedence to PBB and Sarawakians above individual interest
“To struggle is to make a sacrifice. Rank and status are not the priority. The (Sarawakian) people’s comfort is our vision.
“As the PBB Deputy President 2, I strongly welcome the selection of my colleague (Tan Sri) Adenan Satem by the party president (Tan Sri) Taib Mahmud as Sarawak’s fifth chief minister.
“I believe the concord agreement between PBB and BN senior leaders under the leadership of (Tan Sri) Adenan will be able to continue the development agenda previously laid down by (Tan Sri) Taib, ” he said in a statement here today.
He urged all grassroots PBB members and leaders to give unanimous support to Adenan as the new chief minister.
Apart from Adenan and Abang Johari, the other strongly speculated candidate was Second Resource Planning Minister, Awang Tengah Ali Hassan.
Taib’s sudden announcement yesterday that he would meet the Sarawak Governor Tun Salahuddin and submit his resignation took many by surprise. He was orginally supposed to have done so on Feb 15.
Much speculations has gone into why he hurriedly brought forward his meeting and among them was the imminent visit of Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Taib’s naming of Special Functions Minister Adenan, as his successor, although unexpected, has nonetheless still taken people by surprise because Adenan is reportedly in ill health.
But talk circulating here is that he will be holding the fort for “just a while” and that someone else will be taking over after the next election.
